A mysterious hotel that will enter a 20-storey tower replacing the circular Holiday Inn in downtown Raleigh was featured Tuesday as Kimpton, a luxury brand with a growing footprint in North Carolina and around the world.

Raleigh’s Kimpton Hotel will have 179 rooms, more than 6,500 square feet of space for events and meetings, and three concept restaurants and bars, including a rooftop living room.

It will occupy the first six floors of the high-rise, the company said.

“Downtown Raleigh has long been waiting for a luxury hotel like Kimpton. Amenities, restaurants and event facilities will raise the bar of downtown hotels and become a popular destination for visitors and locals alike, ”said Mick Walsdorf, CEO of Tidal Real Estate Partners, in a press release.

Late last year, Tidal Real Estate Partners paid nearly $ 24 million for a 1.3-acre property on Hillsborough Street west of Dawson Street. The site plan for the multi-purpose building also provides for 350 residential units, 7,698 square feet of shopping and 447 parking spaces. It is under consideration in the city.

The Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants brand began operations more than three decades ago in San Francisco, where it is still based. It has grown to more than 75 hotels in different countries.

CEO Mike DeFrina said their three other North Carolina hotels are Hotel Aras in Asheville, Trion Park Hotel in Charlotte, and Hotel Cardinal in Winston-Salem – were successful.

“We are very excited to open a new boutique hotel in central Raleigh,” DeFrina said in a press release. “We believe that our designer brand and hospitable, innovative restaurants and bars will really interest locals and visitors to the city.”

The hotel is expected to open in late 2025.

The around the Holiday Inn is a landmark since its opening in 1969, then the tallest building in Raleigh. A Tidal spokesman said he had no details on demolition plans, but had previously said a breakthrough was expected in 2023.

Tidal, a New York-based development company, has spent more than $ 51 million on real estate in Raleigh in the past seven months alone.

Last month they paid $ 20.9 million for facilities in the warehouse area up to 40 floors. Plans have not yet been announced.

They also asked the city resonate two parking lots along South Wilmington Street they bought in December for $ 7 million to include a 20-story high-rise building. The request was scheduled to be submitted to the planning commission on Tuesday.

“Our continued investment in downtown Raleigh reflects our confidence and commitment to this market,” Walsdorf said in a release.
