Lisa Marie Presley’s cause of death has not yet been determined following an initial autopsy, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner. “Presley was examined on January 14th and the cause of death was deferred. Deferred means that the cause of death has not been determined following an autopsy and the medical examiner is requesting further investigation into the death, including more tests. Once the tests/investigations come back, the doctor will re-evaluate case and determine the cause of death,” said Sarah Ardalani, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office, told CNN. The singer-songwriter died last week after being hospitalized following an apparent cardiac arrest. She was 54 years old. A public memorial service for Presley was planned at Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee, on January 22, according to a statement on Graceland’s website. “In lieu of flowers, the family encourages anyone who wishes to send something to do so in the form of a donation to the Elvis Presley Charitable Foundation,” the website said. The Elvis Presley Charitable Foundation supports the arts, education and activism on behalf of children in the Memphis area. Elvis Presley purchased the estate in 1957 when he was only 22 years old. He died at the mansion of cardiac arrest in 1977 and is buried on the grounds of Graceland, which is now a museum and popular tourist attraction. Lisa Marie Presley will also be buried there, along with her son Benjamin Keough, who committed suicide in 2020 at the age of 27. The Graceland estate was held in trust for Lisa Marie Presley, the only child of Elvis and Priscilla Presley, until her 25th birthday.” Lisa Marie Presley became more involved with the management team of the Elvis Presley Trust and its business entity, Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc. (EPE), which she owned and chaired until February 2005, when she sold a large stake in the company,” according to Graceland’s website. Over the weekend, grief expert David Kessler shared a photo of himself and Presley on his verified Instagram account, writing that she had asked him to accompany her to Memphis for her late father’s 88th birthday celebration a few days before her death.” She had countless invitations to the weekend, but there were only three that mattered to her: to be at the birthday party parents, spending time with his son and the grave of one of the tour after he left Graceland and met his mother, who recently died, Kessler wrote. Presley was active in helping others deal with their grief, he wrote, including organizing grief groups with him for other bereaved parents. Kessler wrote that her time at Graceland was “a lot of fun and she was upbeat” and that “Graceland was her happy place and the staff who all knew her shared that she looked much better.” “She seemed more relaxed and was so proud of the Elvis film. Saturday night we sat at the graves of her father and son,” he wrote. “We talked about the heartbreak she had growing up and the recent devastation of her son’s death. She showed where she would be buried someday. I said after a long time … and she said yes, I have so much to do.” Presley is survived by three daughters, actress Riley Keough and twins Finley and Harper Lockwood. A rep for Graceland confirmed to People that they will inherit the estate.
