When a Texas family’s home burned down on New Year’s Eve, one of their family’s beloved pets saved their daughter’s life at the cost of his own. Jennifer Aleniczak said she heard a loud knock on the door and looked outside to see a neighbor yelling that her house was on fire. When she turned and looked out the door, her deck and stairs were completely on fire. Shouting for her daughter and husband to get out, she grabbed her Shih Tzu and six puppies. “And I started to run outside with them, but I tripped and fell. I started throwing the puppies out on the patio, and my husband was already on the deck, so he was grabbing the puppies and throwing them,” said Jennifer Alenichak. When her husband and neighbors were helping her up the street, her 15-year-old daughter Jaylee started screaming, “Oli, Olli woke me up!” She said, “Yes, I heard the door.” She said, “Because Ollie came into the room. Where’s Ollie?” So we couldn’t find him,” Jennifer Alenichak said. The next day, the family searched for their pit bull named Ollie. They checked the burned house, posted messages on social media and checked local shelters, but found nothing. Until January 9. “My husband walked in and found him right by my daughter’s bed. At the foot of her bed, like he collapsed from smoke inhalation. And I just want to give him a big hug, you know, because if he hadn’t gone there, Jaylee would have died.” – said Jennifer Alenichak.
