Chrome finish: you like it and may not be enough or hate it and want to hide almost all the remnants of fake plastic tinsel, which automakers pretend to be a decorative metal.

And if you’re in the last camp and thinking about buying a new Mercedes E-Class, you should take a look at the new special editions of the Night Edition. Originally available in Europe on the coupe and convertible, though sedans and station wagons will also receive handling soon, the Night Edition cars will benefit from a choice of dark finish accents designed to make it look more vicious and keep interest in the now-older E-Class ahead its replacement next year.

The package is based on the existing finish of the AMG Line and Night Package and can be combined with any conventional E-Class power transmission and paintwork, but cannot be added to full AMG models. Highlights include the black version of the diamond grille, the “Night Edition” badges on the wings, the black exhaust trim and the AMG alloy wheels painted in… well, it won’t be orange, will it? Benz has so far only published photos of the coupe and convertible, but says the boot lid trim on sedans and station wagons is also painted in glossy black.

There is something from the night these E-class cabins, also, starting with the back cover of the AMG Line. The instrument panel is made of faux leather by Artico from Merc, while the seats (heated front) are covered with a fabric of microfiber Artico and Dynamic, if you do not shell out for one of the upgrades of genuine leather.

Other benefits of the Night Edition include a dark aluminum finish, a black ash console finish with open pores to which a polished aluminum Night Edition badge is attached, and the Night Edition logo on floor mats and lighted thresholds.

Mercedes has not confirmed whether the Night Edition cars will arrive in North America, but European customers will be able to get them from July for an additional fee of 5,295.50 to 9,22.50 euros ($ 5,560-9,680) depending on which is the E-Class model they apply treatment.
