The NHL is returning abroad.
After a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the NHL Global Series has resumed operations for the first time since 2019, including two pre-season games and four regular season games scheduled to be held outside of North America in the early 2022-23 campaign.
The festivities begin with the San Jose Sharks and Nashville Prodators, who will play a pair of games against each other on October 7 and 8 at the O2 Arena in Prague, Czech Republic.
Prior to this two-match match, the Predators will play with the Berne SC of the Swiss National League in a pre-season match to be held at the PostFinance Arena in Bern, Switzerland, on 3 October. Sharks, on the other hand, will take part on October 4 at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin, Germany, against Eisbaren Berlin with German DEL.
In 2017, Berne went against the NHL, losing to the New Jersey Devils 3-2 in overtime. Eisbaren-Berlin has twice faced his opponent in the NHL, missing in 2008 a match with “Tampa Bay Lightning” with a score of 4-1, and in 2019 defeated with a score of 3-1 from the “Chicago Blackhawks”.
The second half of the 2022 global series will feature the Colorado Avalanche and Columbus Blue Jackets, and the two teams will play a couple of games in Finland on November 4th and 5th.
Despite holding pre-season games in 2009 and 2010, this will be the first time the NHL regular season games will be held in Tampere.
With the return of trips abroad, it’s nice to see that normalcy is back in the NHL.
