One of the advantages of 3D printing is the fact that instead of being cast as a solid material, items can include the material exactly where it is needed. The Elix bike handlebar stock uses this approach to extreme performance – and pocket emptying.

Announced this Tuesday, Elix is ​​produced by British startup Mythos. It was developed by Dimitris Katsanis, who previously created customized components for racing bikes through his additive engineering company Metron Advanced Equipment.

The device consists of successive layers by selective laser melting of a powdered metal known as Scalmalloy – the latest alloy specific to 3D printing, which mixes scandium, aluminum and magnesium. According to Mythos, the result is a rod that perfectly absorbs road vibrations, provides excellent rigidity and removes material where it is not required, thus maintaining its weight … plus it looks pretty neat.

Currently Mythos Elix is ​​only available to buyers in the UK

Myth

Elix is ​​reported to meet ISO 4210 stress testing standards and has been tested by professional road and gravel racers around the world. It is now available to UK consumers in black or natural silver at a colossal price of £ 500 (about $ 627) – there is no word on what will be available in other markets.

It is offered in lengths from 100 to 130 mm, the first of which is claimed to be 150 grams (5.3 ounces). Elix also has a lifting angle of plus or minus 8 degrees, a clamping diameter of 31.8 mm, titanium fittings and internal cable compatibility.

It is planned that other components printed on 3D printing will be launched under the name Mythos.
