RALEIGH, NC (WTVD) – More than three dozen beagle dogs rescued from a puppy farm in Virginia moved closer to possible adoption after spending time with medical professionals in Raleigh on Sunday.

“I know they weren’t in the best environment,” said Dr. Tiffany Kutner of the Safe Care Spay Center. “They were very malnourished, many of them. And many of them had never been seen outside.”

Advocates for Triangle Beagle Rescue told ABC11 the puppy farm breeds and sells dogs for animal experiments.

“It was a breeding ground, so they lived their lives on the cement. It wasn’t a very good life,” said Leanne Tenbush. – They didn’t have blankets, they didn’t have treats.

A federal judge ordered the release of approximately 4,000 beagles from the farm. The Humane Society is now also involved in finding pet parents to care for the injured dogs. Now they are vaccinated, treated and examined by medical professionals.

“Pretty cute. Scared, but not used to a lot of human contact,” Dr. Kutner said.

“They are so joyful! It took them a while to warm up. Some have been there longer than others. These are the younger ones, the puppies,” Tenbush said.

The Safe Care Clinic is asking pet lovers to donate about $20 to support operations like the one that helps beagles. For more information, visit their websitehere.
