Paramount Land Systems has just introduced its new Maatla 4×4 light protected vehicle, which can be seen as a slightly smaller alternative to the famous Marauder.
The new machine was unveiled at the African Aerospace and Defense Exhibition in Tshwane, South Africa, and is based on a commercial vehicle chassis that the company says “provides best-in-class reliability and proven capability.” It offers seating for up to nine passengers and features ‘Smart Floor’ technology, which means the seats can be quickly removed, allowing it to be configured as an ambulance, command vehicle or configured for other mission requirements, including peacekeeping missions, border patrolling and providing military support.
While the company hasn’t announced drivetrain details for the new Maatla 4×4, it claims it can reach a top speed of 100 km/h (62 mph) on the road and can travel 600 km (373 miles) on a full charge. fuel tank at a cruising speed of 80 km/h (50 mph). It also has a 2-speed transfer case and 3 differential locks to help with its off-road abilities.
“Personnel safety and soldier survivability in the field are key priorities in Paramount Group’s design and manufacturing philosophy,” First priority Land Systems CEO Deon Grobler described. “The Maatla is a multi-purpose vehicle that offers excellent maneuverability and reliability. Designed to handle a 2-tonne payload, the Maatla offers almost endless configuration in terms of mission-specific equipment, weapons and armor installations.”
All Maatla 4×4 models produced have STANAG 4569 Level 1 ballistic and blast protection, which protects occupants from handguns and other small caliber ammunition. The vehicle also provides lower abdominal protection against M26 hand grenades and other similar alternatives.
“Our customers can now take full advantage of three decades of armored vehicle innovation, engineering excellence and market leadership, but in a lighter class vehicle designed in response to changing customer demands,” added SVP of South Africa Paramount International, Eric Ichikowitz.
