Last month, Toyota introduced Land Cruiser Matt Black Edition for Europe, and now the automaker is applying the exact same approach to the JDM-spec Land Cruiser Prado, calling it the Package Matt Black Edition. The special edition is a sequel 70th anniversary since last year.

The SUV gets a bit more stylish in the Matt Black Edition, which could be the last hurray for the 13-year-old current-generation model before the all-new Prado will arrive next year. Predictably, changes are limited to exterior and interior trim.

The Matt Black Edition Package stands out from the rest of the Japanese lineup thanks to a matte black finish on the grille, headlight trim, roof rails, mirrors, tailgate accents, and 18-inch alloy wheels shod with 265/60R18 tires. The LED headlights have an automatic leveling function, and the mirrors fold electrically.

Inside, we find black leather upholstery, wood accents on the dashboard, a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and TV, and a six-speaker audio system. The SUV is available in five-seater (two-row) and seven-seater (three-row) versions. Toyota’s Safety Sense package includes adaptive cruise control, but blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are optional extras.

Unlike EU-spec Land Cruiser 150 series which is only available with diesel, in Japan buyers can choose between diesel and petrol engines. So, the Matt Black Edition is available with either a 2.8-liter turbodiesel with 201 hp. (150 kW / 204 hp) and a torque of 500 Nm (368.8 lb-ft), or with a 2.7-liter gasoline engine with a capacity of 161 hp. (120 kW). / 163 PS) and 246 Nm (181 lb-ft) of torque. In both cases, power is sent to all four wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission.

The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Matt Black Edition package is now available to order in Japan, priced between ¥4,300,000 ($32,859) and ¥5,118,000 ($39,110) depending on the specification. The current fourth generation Land Cruiser Prado 150 Series was originally introduced in 2009 and received major facelifts in 2013 and 2017 along with numerous model year updates.
