Rocky Mount, NC – Rocky Mount Police are investigating the death of two babies as murder.
Officers responded to an ambulance call due to two irresponsible children around 9:20 a.m. Saturday.
Police said they found a 3-month-old child and his 1-year-old sister who did not respond in a parked car.
Both brothers and sisters were pronounced dead at the hospital.
In an update Saturday night, Rocky Mount Police arrested the mother and her boyfriend and blamed them for the deaths of both children.
21-year-old Zharia Noel and 21-year-old Amen Butler were charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter and two counts of child abuse for inflicting bodily harm.
Noel and Butler each received $ 100,000 in unsecured bonds.
Rocky Mount Police and its homicide investigation team are conducting an investigation. Other charges may be pending, pending reports from the North Carolina forensics office.
The Rocky Mount Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division and the Department of Social Services are also actively investigating the deaths.
