Wawa plans to open its first locations in North Carolina by 2024, This was reported by the WSOC in Charlotte.
WRAL and WBTV also announced plans to expand the 58-year-old company. The News & Observer contacted the company for more information.
“We couldn’t have been happier to bring a one-of-a-kind brand and Wawa offer to this market in the near future,” said WRAL’s Lori Bruce, the company’s public relations manager. “We look forward to serving the community with our quality fresh food and beverages and, as always, our deep commitment to the communities in which we operate.”
The chain of stores will compete with local favorites Sheetz and 7-Eleven, the latter of which returns to North Carolina after a ten-year hiatus, according to N&O.
Wawa Inc. began in 1803 as a foundry in New Jersey before turning into a dairy processing plant and finally into a food market. The company’s current incarnation includes more than 630 locations on the east coast, the website said. About half include gas stations.
Wawa markets are known for their hags, Wawa Wraps and Sizzlis – branded hot breakfast sandwiches.
