HATTERAS, NC (WAVY) – Early Sunday morning the Coast Guard was called to rescue an injured crew member from a ship nearly 60 miles off the coast of Hateras.
According to the military, the command center of the Fifth Coast Guard in Portsmouth was called around 4 a.m. Sunday that a woman on the ship, Ivar Rifer, had seriously injured her hand in the engine room.
The Coast Guard launched a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Elizabeth City Air Station to lift the woman off the ship.
She was taken to Norfolk Center General Hospital.
