When it comes to car design, the exhaust is often an easy way for automakers to tell people what kind of car it is. Hidden exhaust vents? Most likely a family car or a luxury car. A crazy center-mounted four-pipe setup? Probably something sporty. But among all the different factory exhausts, which one looks the best?
The first thing that comes to mind is this Lexus LFA and its triple exhaust pipes. Looking more like a Gatling gun than an exhaust system, this setup was not only beautiful, but also played a big part in the car’s legendary V10 sound. But this isn’t the only instance of Lexus getting creative with exhaust design; there’s also the iconic quad tailpipes of their “regular” F models. The trend started with the IS F of the mid-2000s, then continued with the RC F and GS F to the most recent iteration on IS 500 F Sport Performance.

There are also side exit exhausts like on Dodge Viperor placed further forward Mercedes SLR McLarenside pipes of Both of these are always interesting despite their thinness, but perhaps the most unique application of this is on the TVR Sagaris, where the tailpipes are placed so far back that you’d think they were traditional dual tailpipes, but they occupy a bend in the 90 degrees directly in front of the bumper.
There’s also a certain beauty in cleverly integrated exhausts like the C1 Corvette’s bumper pipes and Koenigsegg Regerathin exhaust pipes hidden in the diffuser. At the very opposite end of the spectrum, there’s also the odd Apollo IE star-shaped exhaust.
