The Microsoft Surface Duo was a pretty unique phone. While we all know it’s an Android-based phone, an engineering student saw other possibilities in it. Gustave Mons was able to place Window 11 in the Surface Duo.
People who transfer different software to devices are not new, but it never gets old. This becomes more impressive when a person transfers a complete computer operating system to a device that needs to run on a mobile platform. For example, a user was really able to get Windows 11 to run on a Pixel 6.
Monce has installed Windows 11 in Surface Duo
The Microsoft Surface Duo was launched back in 2020 with Android 10, and it recently received an update to Android 11. It was launched a year before the launch of Windows 11, so it’s impressive that someone managed to combine the two.
Gustave Mons posted a lengthy post on Twitter Windows 11 on his Surface Duo. It included both videos and photos. So far, he has managed to get the software to work on only one of the screens. The other screen was left off, and that makes sense.
Using the device in portrait mode formats the screen accordingly, and it seems that you are using a tablet running Windows 11. Interestingly, you can convert it to landscape mode, and the software will change orientation.
You can set this yourself
If you want to try it yourself, you can download it. In his Twitter he includes a link to get all the necessary assets to make it work. There is a link to Github as well as a link to download the required drivers.
Suffice it to say that you shouldn’t do this if you don’t understand technology. By doing so, you run the risk of damaging your phone or voiding your warranty. Not only that, but it’s a really early project. If you download the software to your device, you will not be able to use the touch controls or your data. If you’re brave enough and nerd enough, you can go to Github and try it for yourself.
